Dementia Friendly Dallas
Dementia Friendly Dallas was formed by a group of individuals, businesses, and organizations, each with the desire to create a community that is informed, safe, and respectful of individuals with dementia and their care partners. We envision a community where individuals with dementia can live, age, and thrive. Dementia Friendly Dallas is seeking to bring more dementia friendly practices to our city through community impact and individual impact.
This website is a collaborative effort to unify local resources.
The goal of Dementia Friendly Dallas is to reduce stigma and isolation through education and support. In addition to our calendar of local opportunities, Dementia Friendly Dallas has adopted the following initiatives:
Dementia Friend
A Dementia Friend learns about dementia and then turns that understanding into action. After this one-hour education session, you understand five key messages about dementia, how to effectively communicate with someone living with dementia, and choose a small action to make your community more dementia friendly. We all have a part to play in creating dementia friendly communities! Dementia Friend Education Sessions are held virtually and in-person and facilitated by a Dementia Friendly Dallas volunteer.
Dementia Friendly @ Work
Equip your organization to engage with and respond effectively when serving people living with dementia and their families. Through staff training, self-evaluation, and commitment to dementia friendly practices, organizations are encouraged to create an environment that is safe, respectful, and welcoming for people living with dementia.
Dementia Friendly Engage
People with dementia seek opportunities to learn, create, socialize, and volunteer. Through the Dementia Friendly Engage initiative, DFD supports the development of Memory Café’s to encourage connection, engagement, and friendship for both the person living with dementia and their care partner.
Respite Support
Dementia Friendly Dallas also supports the development of respite programs which offer significant benefits for both the person with dementia and their care partner. The person with dementia may enjoy socialization and planned activities while their caregiver appreciates time to rest, run errands, or see friends.
Dementia Friendly Faith Communities
Dementia friendly faith communities can provide an important spiritual respite. As welcoming, compassionate environments, you can offer families coping with dementia opportunities for meaningful engagement and spiritual connection. Through dementia friendly practices, entire faith communities can embrace and uplift people with dementia and their care partners.
